Pigmentation removal

Age spots, sun damage spots and freckles on your face or body can be lightened or removed using laser or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology. Treatments for such lesions are non-invasive and leave you with a more even skin tone.

You need no anaesthesia as any discomfort is mild and tolerable. During the treatment the  superficial skin temperature is reduced by the use of a cool air system in order tp  minimise discomfort and protect the upper layer of the skin (epidermis). Treated areas may feel warm and sensitive in the first few days. The lesions will darken and then fade or flake off over the next one to two weeks.

Suitable for everyone except those with dark or tanned skins, the treatment varies according to the lesion. Typically you would need between one and three 10-30 minute sessions at four to six week intervals.

Before all  treatments  Dr Fitzgerald will take a medical history, and clearly explain all benefits, risks and side effects associated with the procedure. You will then be asked to sign a consent form. If you are suitable for the treatment, a patch of skin will be tested first and another appointment will be booked. At the follow-up appointment we will assess the results of the patch test and  proceed with the full treatment if appropriate. There is no charge for  the initial consultation and patch test.

Note: Large, dark, mottled or raised lesions and moles are not suitable for IPL. If Dr Fitzgerald is concerned about the appearance of any pigmented lesion, she will refer you to one of her consultant dermatologist colleagues.
